Rachel Feuer, PhD, CPsych
Welcome
I am a licensed psychologist in North Carolina and a registered psychologist in Ontario. I provide a supportive, open-minded, nurturing environment in which clients can heal and grow.

I use contemporary, evidence-based treatments to help clients with life challenges including trauma, anxiety, depression, perinatal mental health, life transitions, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

I love working with clients from a wide variety of cultural and family backgrounds, and am 2SLGBTQA+ affirming.

I am happy to see clients in person in the Southern Ontario CBT office in Guelph, Ontario, or via video telehealth for clients anywhere in North Carolina or Ontario.

About Me
I wanted to be a psychologist since I was a young child. I have always found meaning in supporting others and helping them cope with difficult life experiences. I am grateful that my training has given me skills and perspectives to help others more effectively. I consider myself a lifelong learner, and my approach continues to evolve as I learn from trainings, books, and from the wisdom and experiences of the clients I work with.

Prior to starting my own practice, I was a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at Duke University Medical School. In addition to working with clients directly, I provided clinical supervision for interns, postdoctoral fellows, and residents.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, taking long walks in nature, and traveling.
Areas Of Expertise
Trauma Recovery
It takes a great deal of courage to open up about traumatic experiences. As a therapist, my role is to create a safe space for healing, while providing evidence-based treatment. I have extensive training in several approaches to treating trauma, including Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Anxiety, Panic, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Experiencing anxiety is part of being human, but sometimes anxieties, worries, or obsessive thoughts or behaviors can get in the way of living a full and meaningful life. My approach to treating anxiety and obsessive disorders integrates mindfulness, cognitive, and behavioral treatments.
Pregnancy and Postpartum Support, Infertility and Loss
I have extensive experience helping people prepare to make the transition to parenthood, and cope with the many new stressors and identity changes of this time period.

In addition to the typical stressors of having a new baby, many women struggle with infertility, experience their labor and delivery as traumatic, have to cope with difficult NICU stays for their babies, or experience pregnancy loss. I use evidence-based methods to gently help women and their partners process pregnancy loss and birth-related trauma.
Parenting Challenges
Sometimes parenting can be really difficult. I work with parents who are struggling to attach to their children, or parents who are struggling to deal with their child's behaviors or emotions. My approach is shaped by Dr. Ross Greene's CPS model, Daniel Siegel's work on understanding the neuroscience behind child behavior, and the Circle of Security intervention, among others.
Medical Providers and Academics
My training in an academic medical center and a college counseling center have given me a great deal of experience working with clients who are doctors, medical residents, medical fellows, and nurses, as well as graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty members. I understand the particular challenges that these career paths can pose, and can help busy professionals to care for their emotional needs as they juggle the many other demands in their lives.
My Approach
I use contemporary cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT's) to support your growth and change. These include:
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Teaches that painful emotions, thoughts, and experiences are a normal part of the human experience.
-
Increases our ability to move towards the things that are most important to us in life.
-
Uses mindfulness and acceptance to help us become more psychologically flexible.
-
-
Mindfulness practices, including the use of Self Compassion
-
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
-
A specific type of CBT that helps people learn how to identify and modify thoughts related to a traumatic experience.
-
-
Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
-
An evidence-based therapy for trauma that involves talking about a traumatic experience in a particular way to reduce distress and increase well-being.
-
-
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
-
A particular type of CBT used to treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder by helping people to approach and learn to tolerate their fears.
